Approximately 2 Tons of Waste Collected During Special Campaign

Islamabad (Staff Reporter): The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), on the directives of the CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, successfully organized a cleanliness drive at Rawal Dam in collaboration with Jazz World. The special campaign aimed to protect the environment and raise public awareness about cleanliness.

The cleanliness drive was led by MCI Chief Officer Dr. Anam, while more than 200 volunteers, including representatives of Jazz World, CDA, MCI, various NGOs, students and members of civil society, participated enthusiastically.

During the campaign, volunteers collected 80 bags of waste and removed approximately 2 tons of solid waste from the surroundings of Rawal Dam, helping clean the area.

On the occasion, the MCI Chief Officer said that the cleanliness drive had been organized in the public interest to ensure environmental protection and highlight the importance of responsible waste disposal.

She said that CDA and MCI, in collaboration with the Government of Punjab and other relevant departments, were taking comprehensive and sustainable measures to protect Rawal Dam from pollution. She added that these measures also included the installation of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to prevent contaminated water from entering Rawal Dam.

Chief Officer Dr. Anam appealed to citizens, particularly those living in areas connected to the streams coming from Bhara Kahu and Murree, to refrain from dumping waste into them, as these streams are among the major sources of pollution entering Rawal Dam.

At the conclusion of the event, CDA and MCI appreciated the services of Jazz World and all the volunteers and expressed their resolve to continue organizing such activities in collaboration with public and private institutions to make Islamabad cleaner, greener and healthier.
