A major operation by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is underway in the Bari Imam area of Islamabad, adjacent to the Red Zone. In a recent move, the house of former Mayor and Chairman Union Council, Peer Adil Gilani, and Qadir Gilani has been demolished.
Peer Adil has been a vocal advocate for local residents whom the CDA has labeled as "illegal occupants.” Despite claims from locals that the High Court had issued a stay order against the operation, the CDA proceeded with the demolition. Announcements are now being made in surrounding neighborhoods for residents to vacate their homes.
