Islamabad (Staff Reporter) The 79th anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and a renewed commitment at Allama Iqbal Open University. During the main ceremony, Professor Dr. Shah Mohiuddin Hashmi, Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, represented the Vice Chancellor and raised the flag. A guard of honor was presented, the national anthem was played, and special prayers were offered for Pakistan’s security, development, prosperity, and stability.
On the occasion of Independence Day, the Directorate of Students Advisory and Counseling Services, in collaboration with the Department of History, held a seminar titled “August 14: Day of Renewed Commitment,” with the theme “Independence Day: From the Battle of Truth to the Construction of Pakistan.” The seminar provided a detailed discussion on the objectives of Pakistan’s establishment, the importance of freedom, and national responsibilities for the country’s construction and development.
Speakers emphasized that nations progress only when their youth recognize their responsibilities towards the construction, development, and prosperity of their country. They stated that promoting unity, cooperation, tolerance, and mutual understanding is essential for Pakistan’s development and stability.
The speakers stressed that the younger generation is a valuable asset of the country, and they should play their role in national development through education, research, and positive activities. They noted that Independence Day reminds us of our commitment to fulfill our responsibilities with honesty and sincerity for Pakistan’s security, development, prosperity, and stability.
Among the speakers were Professor Dr. Shah Mohiuddin Hashmi, Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies; Professor Dr. Syed Muhammad Amir Shah, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Professor Dr. Sher Muhammad, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences; Professor Dr. Irshad Ahmad Arshad, Director of Administration; Dr. Malik Taqir Ahmad Khan, Director General of Regional Services; Syed Ghulam Kazim Ali, Director of Students Advisory and Counseling Services; Dr. Kishwar Sultana; and Dr. Kausar Parveen.
The event was well attended by university students, faculty, officials, and staff. At the end of the ceremony, an Independence Day cake was cut, and special prayers were offered for Pakistan’s security, development, prosperity, and stability.
