Committee Directs Reassessment of Lyari Freight Corridor Cost and Timely Completion of CAREC Project
Islamabad (Izhar Khan Niazi) — A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Economic Affairs was held under the chairmanship of Acting Chairman Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, during which concerns were expressed over insufficient funding for the K-4 Water Supply Project. The Ministry of Water Resources has been directed to provide a detailed briefing on the matter in the upcoming meeting.
The committee directed a reassessment of the cost of the Lyari Elevated Freight Corridor Project and instructed authorities to develop a low-cost financial model in the national interest.
The meeting was informed that work on the third phase of the CAREC project has resumed and is expected to be completed by December 2027.
During the briefing, the Ministry of Economic Affairs informed the committee that tensions in the Middle East had resulted in an increase in oil prices and inflation. However, the situation improved following the ceasefire, although regional uncertainty continues to remain a challenge for the economy.
