The Eurasia Shorts 2026 Film Festival, hosted by the Embassy of Pakistan in the United States, concluded successfully with the participation of a large and diverse audience, including representatives from the U.S. Department of State, the diplomatic community, civil society, media organizations, and various other sectors.
The event commenced with the national anthems of Pakistan, the United States, and France. Eurasia Shorts is an annual short film festival organized in collaboration with various embassies and cultural centers based in Washington.
With the support of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), Pakistan participated in this international film festival for the first time. Through a selection of short films, the country highlighted themes of national resilience, determination, social harmony, and collective strength.
Addressing the audience, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, stated that hosting the event reflected Pakistan’s commitment to cultural dialogue and creative collaboration. He noted that Pakistan’s creative traditions are deeply rooted in a civilization that spans thousands of years, and that from Mehrgarh to the Soan Valley, the region has long been a symbol of knowledge, art, and creative expression.
The Ambassador said that the stories presented were not merely works of fiction but were inspired by real-life experiences and inspiring events. According to him, these films seek to replace stereotypes about Pakistan with authentic stories of people, their struggles, and their achievements.
Rizwan Saeed Sheikh further stated that Pakistan is a country with an ancient civilization but not a backward one; rather, it has consistently nurtured traditions of knowledge, tolerance, and progressive thinking. He added that the films demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to promoting minority rights, diversity, and social inclusion through practical measures.
He also emphasized that creativity serves as a powerful bridge between nations and civilizations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s intention to continue playing an active role in the global cultural landscape. Addressing the participants, he said, “Let us all come together to celebrate creativity.”
During the festival, two short films each from Pakistan and France were screened. The enthusiastic audience, particularly young attendees, greatly enjoyed the cinematic dialogue presented by award-winning filmmakers.
At the conclusion of the event, participants highly appreciated the hospitality of the Embassy of Pakistan, as well as Pakistan’s culture and traditions of warm hospitality. Amina Madjlessi, Deputy and Academic Director of Alliance Française, congratulated the Ambassador of Pakistan and the embassy team on organizing a successful and memorable event.
