Alleged Negligence of Murree Highway Department: GT Road Begins to Resemble Ruins, Public and Transporters Distressed

Report by Raja Usman Ali

Murree: The summer tourist season is at its peak in the Queen of Hills, Murree; however, the deteriorated condition of the Rawalpindi–Murree GT Road and the ongoing construction work have caused severe difficulties for the public, tourists, and transporters.

According to public circles, the construction and repair work on the GT Road has been progressing at an extremely slow pace for the past year. The road has been dug up at several locations and left incomplete, resulting in difficulties in transportation, traffic jams, and increased risks of accidents.

Citizens and transporters say that during the tourist season, the poor condition of the road is not only creating problems for travelers but is also negatively affecting business activities and tourism in Murree. The affected people have raised questions regarding the performance of the Highway Department and the concerned authorities and have demanded immediate action.

Public and business circles, while strongly protesting against the situation, have called upon Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to take immediate notice and ensure the early completion of the construction and rehabilitation of the Rawalpindi–Murree GT Road so that the difficulties faced by citizens, tourists, and the business community can be resolved.
