*University’s victory by 8 wickets*
Islamabad (Staff Reporter) A friendly T20 cricket match was held on Thursday at the sports ground of the International Islamic University Islamabad between the IIUI team and the Dunya News team, in which the university team successfully chased the target of 148 runs with the loss of two wickets, four overs before the end. This match was organized in collaboration with the Office of Protocol and Public Relations and the Directorate of Students Affairs.
The Dunya News team was led by renowned anchorperson and senior journalist Samar Abbas, while the IIUI team was captained by Deputy Director of Protocol and Public Relations Muhammad Nauman. Imdadullah scored an unbeaten 101 runs off 42 balls and took four wickets, earning him the Best Player award.
The chief guest at the closing ceremony was Vice President (Administration and Finance) Professor Dr. Abdul Rasheed, who presented trophies to the winning and runner-up teams as well as the best player. In his speech, he stated that such activities are a very positive means of communication between both sides and will help reduce the distance between educational and journalistic circles. He praised the performance of both teams and acknowledged the efforts of the university’s administrative team, including Sports In-Charge Chaudhry Khalid, Horticulture Department’s Altaf Burki, and IIUI team coach Muhammad Nasir.
The chief organizer of the event and In-Charge of Protocol and Public Relations, Dr. Asma Mansoor, stated that this match heralds strong and positive relations between IIUI and the media, and the university is ready to work towards bringing youth back to the playgrounds in this era of technological distance from outdoor fields. She thanked the administration of Dunya News and Samar Abbas for their participation in this constructive activity.
Director of Students Affairs and overall supervisor of the event, Dr. Hafiz Ghufran, praised the spirit of both teams, stating that this is just the beginning and the university will host Dunya News and other media teams more frequently in the future. He mentioned that the pleasant atmosphere created on this occasion is equally beneficial for both educational institutions and the media industry.
The event concluded with handshakes, group photos, and an open invitation for the next match.
