Protection of Children Is the Primary Responsibility of State Institutions; Law Enforcement Agencies Must Prioritize Child Safety at All Times, Says Convener of the Parliamentary Caucus on Children’s Rights

Member of the National Assembly and Convener of the Parliamentary Caucus on Children’s Rights (PCCR), Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic death of 9-year-old Australian-Pakistani girl Hania Ahmed in an unfortunate incident that occurred in Chakwal. She strongly condemned the incident and called for a transparent and impartial investigation.
In her statement, Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan said that the death of any child is an unbearable tragedy, and the loss of an innocent life is always a matter of grave concern. She emphasized that every child has the fundamental right to life, protection, and safety, and it is the responsibility of state institutions to safeguard children from all forms of violence and harm.
Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan stated that the protection and safety of children must remain a top priority under all circumstances. She stressed that law enforcement agencies must ensure the protection of children’s rights and safety, particularly during operational activities.
She noted that the incident raises serious questions and highlights the need for strict adherence to established procedures, effective oversight, and the adoption of child-sensitive strategies during law enforcement operations.
Expressing her heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, she also prayed for the speedy recovery of Hania Ahmed’s injured father and brother.
Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan urged the relevant authorities to conduct a transparent, impartial, and comprehensive investigation into the incident so that the facts may come to light and responsibility can be determined.
She further remarked that such tragedies serve as a reminder of the urgent need to strengthen protective mechanisms and safety measures to ensure that children are safeguarded from all forms of harm.
