Heavy Transport Drivers Must Undergo Psychological Assessment and Be Provided Adequate Rest: SP Ghazi Faisal Saleem

RAWALPINDI (Waseem Ali): A road safety meeting was held with dumper owners, bus owners, transport operators, and drivers at the PHP Post Ghelan Kalan, District Rawalpindi, under the auspices of the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) Rawalpindi Region. The meeting was chaired by Regional Officer Punjab Highway Patrol Rawalpindi, SP Ghazi Faisal Saleem, PSP.

Addressing the meeting, SP Ghazi Faisal Saleem said that implementing effective road safety measures is essential to prevent traffic accidents and protect precious human lives. He directed transport owners to ensure the psychological profiling of drivers before assigning them duties on heavy vehicles, so that their mental capacity, sense of responsibility, and suitability for driving could be effectively assessed.

He said that drivers must be provided with adequate rest and should not be forced to drive continuously for long hours, as fatigue is a major cause of fatal traffic accidents. He further directed that drivers with repeated violations of traffic laws, multiple challans, or cases involving serious traffic offences should not be employed.

The Regional Officer urged all transport owners, operators, and drivers to promote responsible driving, fully comply with traffic laws, and extend full cooperation to the Punjab Highway Patrol in establishing safer highways.

He said that the Punjab Highway Patrol would continue to perform its responsibilities with full dedication to protect the lives and property of the public and provide a safe travelling environment on the highways.
