NAVTTC asked to submit report to ensure transparency; committee expresses concern over delays in salaries and pensions, receives briefing on Cambridge equivalence system
Islamabad (Izhar Khan Niazi): The National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, chaired by Acting Chairperson Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, held a meeting in which serious concerns were expressed over the selection procedure for 500 candidates under the NCLEX Nursing Training Programme.
The committee stated that approximately three hundred thousand rupees are being spent from the national exchequer on each candidate, therefore the selection process must be completely transparent and based on merit. The committee sought a detailed report from the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) regarding the selection of the implementing agency, nomination of candidates, and other details of the programme.
During the meeting, the committee also expressed concern over the financial and administrative crisis at the Federal Urdu University, particularly delays in the payment of salaries and pensions to faculty members and employees. The Ministry of Federal Education was directed to provide a comprehensive report on the matter.
The committee was also briefed by the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) regarding the equivalence system for Cambridge qualifications and the regulatory framework for foreign examination bodies.
Members were further informed about recommendations related to the registration process of Cambridge International Education and matters concerning the recognition and regulation of international educational systems.
