Subheading: Committee Recommends Allocation of Additional Land for Karachi Port Trust Parking, Measures to Resolve Traffic Issues and Formation of Subcommittee
Islamabad (Izhar Khan Niazi) — A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs was held at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Abdul Qadir Patel, during which matters related to Karachi Port Trust, Gwadar Port Authority, and Port Qasim Authority were reviewed.
The committee termed the proposed allocation of 300 acres of land for Karachi Port Trust’s parking facility insufficient and recommended allocating additional adjacent land keeping in view future requirements.
The committee also directed authorities to take measures for improving traffic flow around Karachi Port and sought a briefing from the National Highway Authority in the next meeting.
During the meeting, a subcommittee was constituted to review the Karachi Port Trust (Amendment) Bill 2025. Meanwhile, recommendations were made to approve the Gwadar Port Authority (Amendment) Bill 2025, Port Qasim Authority (Amendment) Bill 2025, Carriage Shipping Documents Bill 2026, and Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2026 with minor amendments.
The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs informed the committee that due to the efforts of the ministry, Pakistan’s ports have witnessed significant improvement in international rankings.
The committee appreciated the performance of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, port authorities, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, and other relevant institutions for their efforts.
