Islamabad (Izhar Khan Niazi) – A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination was held at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Acting Chairperson Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro, in which the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2026–27 and Pakistan’s Electric Vehicle (EV) policy were reviewed.
The Ministry of Climate Change informed the committee that despite limited resources, priority has been given to nationally important projects. It added that ongoing initiatives include measures to control water pollution in Islamabad, the Korang Nullah sewage treatment project, and efforts to improve air quality.
The Ministry of Industries and Production briefed the committee on the EV policy, stating that approval has been granted for more than 100 charging stations. It was also informed that EV charging facilities will be mandatory at new petrol pumps in Islamabad, while a battery recycling policy is also in the final stages of approval.
The committee requested detailed reports on GMOs, biosafety, vehicle emission testing laboratories, and the boundaries of Margalla Hills National Park.
