Women Elected on Reserved Seats Should Voluntarily Give Up Benefits, Says Shahid Riaz Satti

Murree (Raja Usman Ali)

Former Member of the Punjab Assembly and former Parliamentary Secretary of Punjab, Shahid Riaz Satti, has said that public representation is an honor and should never be treated as a business or a means of obtaining privileges and benefits.

He stated that the purpose of reserved seats for women is to ensure effective representation in legislative bodies. However, women elected on these seats do not go through the direct public electoral process.

Shahid Riaz Satti suggested that women elected on reserved seats should voluntarily forgo their salaries, allowances, and other financial benefits in the spirit of national service, thereby helping to reduce the burden on the national exchequer.

He further said that due to the current inflationary situation in the country, ordinary citizens are already facing significant hardships. Therefore, public representatives should also reduce their own expenditures and make efforts to provide relief to the people.
