An intelligence-based operation in the Mehr Gul Klay cemetery resulted in the recovery of 3 Kalashnikovs, a pistol, a hand grenade, 7 magazines, and multiple cartridges, while the search for other terrorists continues.

Peshawar (Khalid Khan) – During an intelligence-based operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Mirakchori area of the Mehr Gul Klay cemetery, 4 terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire, while several others managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The deceased terrorists were found in possession of 3 Kalashnikovs, one pistol, one hand grenade, 7 magazines, and multiple cartridges.

According to the CTD, credible information was received regarding terrorists planning to target security forces and damage public property under the leadership of the Fitna al-Khawarij JUA Jamruz group, who were believed to be present in Mirakchori. In response, the CTD Peshawar region’s Swat team conducted an operation in the Mehr Gul Klay cemetery.

During the operation, the terrorists opened fire as soon as they spotted the CTD personnel, which lasted for about 20 to 25 minutes. After the firing ceased, a search operation was conducted in the area, resulting in the discovery of 4 dead terrorists, while others had fled. CTD officials reported that all personnel remained safe during the operation.

According to the CTD, one of the deceased terrorists was identified as Syed Wali, son of Abdul Ghani, a resident of Nangarhar, Afghanistan, from whose pocket an Afghan refugee card was also recovered. Officials stated that based on available evidence, Syed Wali could be one of the 3 suicide bombers who previously entered Pakistan for terrorism via the Khyber district from Afghanistan; however, further investigations are ongoing.

The profiling of the deceased terrorists is also underway, while pursuit and search operations continue in the area to apprehend the fleeing terrorists.

The Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hamid, and the Additional Inspector General of the Counter Terrorism Department praised the professional skills, bravery, and courage of the CTD Peshawar region personnel for their successful operation.
