Tarbela Ghazi (Staff Reporter): Under the supervision of Agriculture Officer Aftab Ahmad Shah, the Agriculture Department (Extension Wing), Ghazi Circle, distributed certified sesame and sunflower seeds among farmers. On the occasion, Field Assistants Zia-ul-Haq and Tahir Mehmood supervised the seed distribution process and also provided farmers with awareness regarding modern agricultural practices.
According to the Agriculture Department, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is providing a subsidy of Rs. 5,000 per package on sesame and sunflower seeds to enable farmers to achieve higher yields at lower production costs and to promote the cultivation of oilseed crops.
In addition, the Agriculture Department is also providing fruit fly traps free of cost to owners of fruit orchards for the control of fruit flies. The initiative aims to protect orchards from harmful pests and improve both the quality and quantity of fruit production.
Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Officer Aftab Ahmad Shah said that the Agriculture Department is taking practical measures to provide modern agricultural facilities to farmers and increase agricultural production. He said that the cultivation of oilseed crops such as sesame and sunflower is the need of the hour, as it will not only increase farmers’ income but also help meet the country’s edible oil requirements.
He urged farmers to make full use of the facilities and technical guidance provided by the Agriculture Department in order to achieve better and higher-quality agricultural production.
