Speakers at Islamabad Conference Call on International Community to Take Notice of Alleged Human Rights Violations in Kashmir
Islamabad (City Reporter): A dignified conference was organized on August 5 by the Human Rights Council of Pakistan in collaboration with the National Language Promotion Department, National Heritage and Culture Division, Islamabad. The event was attended by prominent personalities from different walks of life, social activists, educationists, writers, intellectuals, and lawyers.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. President Human Rights Council of Pakistan Islamabad, Murad Ali, welcomed the guests and participants. He said that the objective of the council is to highlight the contributions of individuals playing a positive role in society and to create awareness about human rights. He added that the purpose of the conference was to effectively raise the voice of the Kashmiri people at every level.
Addressing the conference as the chairperson, Mashaal Yasin Malik said that protection of human rights is the foremost responsibility of every civilized society. She emphasized that state institutions and civil society must work together to safeguard the rights of women, children, and vulnerable segments of society.
She said that August 5 is considered a dark day in history for Kashmiris and peace-loving people around the world, alleging that India violated international laws on this day. She stated that no occupying force or military restrictions can eliminate the spirit of freedom and recognized identity of the Kashmiri people.
Mashaal Yasin Malik further stated that the Pakistani nation stands with its armed forces and emphasized the importance of national security and sovereignty. She said that Pakistan has the capability and determination to face challenges and protect its national interests.
Chief guest Shamim Shal said that promoting peace, tolerance, and respect for humanity is a vital need of the time. She stated that awareness about human rights and social responsibility contributes to building a stronger and better society.
She alleged that demographic changes in the occupied region and efforts to alter the population structure have become evident, urging the international community to play an active role regarding human rights concerns.
Chief guest Bashir Khan said that promoting the spirit of public service and humanitarian values among youth is a collective responsibility. He said such conferences provide an effective platform to raise awareness and encourage individuals working for positive change in society.
He added that the sacrifices of the people of Kashmir would not go in vain and expressed hope for a peaceful resolution. He said Pakistani citizens continue to stand in solidarity with the Kashmiri people.
Abdul Moeiz stressed the need to educate young people about the historical aspects of the Kashmir issue and encouraged the use of social media and modern communication platforms to highlight human rights concerns.
Rohan said that alleged incidents of violence against youth and human rights issues in Kashmir remain a matter of concern for the international community. He called for efforts toward implementing relevant United Nations resolutions.
Sohail Abbasi highlighted the legal and diplomatic aspects of the Kashmir issue, stating that education and public awareness are key elements in protecting human rights. He said lasting peace in the region depends on a fair resolution of outstanding issues.
Taj Syed said that efforts to erase Kashmir’s culture and language cannot succeed, adding that the Kashmiri people have continued to preserve their identity.
Advocate Hamad Abbasi discussed international legal aspects and called for accountability regarding alleged violations of international law.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Professor Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, Director General of the National Language Promotion Department, and Bashir Khan presented Mashaal Yasin Malik with the book “Mukhtasar Tareekh Zaban-o-Adab Kashmiri” authored by Dr. Muhammad Yousaf Bukhari and published by the National Language Promotion Department.
