Preservation of Taxila’s Historical Heritage Is Government’s Top Priority: Barrister Aqeel Malik

Meeting with UNESCO Pakistan Country Director Fawad Pashayev; Agreement to Ensure Conservation and Restoration According to International Standards

ISLAMABAD/TAXILA (Shah Rukh Khan): Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik met UNESCO Pakistan Country Director Fawad Pashayev and his team. The meeting included detailed discussions on recent media reports regarding Taxila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the preservation of the historical heritage and joint measures for its further improvement.

During the meeting, Barrister Aqeel Malik said that Taxila was Pakistan’s great historical heritage, and as it was part of his constituency, its preservation held special importance for him.

He expressed his resolve that all measures for the preservation, restoration, and development of Taxila’s historical heritage would be ensured in accordance with UNESCO guidelines and international standards.

The Minister of State appreciated the cooperation and technical assistance provided by UNESCO Pakistan and said that through mutual collaboration, Taxila’s historical significance, cultural identity, and ancient remains would be preserved for future generations.

He said that Pakistan’s history and cultural heritage were a shared national trust, and the responsibility for their preservation rested with everyone.

The government, in cooperation with all relevant institutions, was committed to providing Taxila with the attention, protection, and resources that this world historical heritage deserved.
