Murree (Special Correspondent): The main sewerage drain stretching from Mochi Mandi to Shawala Graveyard has remained in a state of disrepair for a long time. During the ongoing monsoon season, the lack of repair work by the concerned authorities has caused rainwater to flow from various damaged sections of the drain, significantly increasing the risk of landslides in the area.
According to local residents, the deteriorating condition of the drain has diverted rainwater towards residential areas and roads, creating serious difficulties for the public and raising concerns about potential damage to nearby residential buildings.
Residents further stated that illegal constructions and encroachments have been established over the sewerage drain in the Mochi Mandi and Shawala areas, with several houses reportedly built on top of the drainage channel. They claimed that no effective action has been taken by the authorities against these illegal structures, increasing the possibility of a major accident at any time.
The local community has urged the district administration, municipal authorities, and other relevant departments to immediately repair the sewerage drain, carry out an indiscriminate operation against encroachments, and conduct an emergency survey of the area to assess and mitigate potential risks in order to prevent any loss of life or property.
